Cubility wins ONS 2008 SME Innovation Award
Norwegian company Cubility was awarded the ONS 2008 SME Innovation Award at a special mini-seminar and lunch in Stavanger today for its MudCube enhanced fluid cleaning system.
They were among 10 finalists from 91 approved applications for the prizes, which were instituted in 1982 and widened in 2004 with an award for small and medium-sized enterprises.
"These entrepreneurs have come a long way since they launched the company roughly four years ago," said Lars Takla, chair of the ONS Foundation, when presenting the award.
"They have addresses the problem of handling drilling mud cost-effectively while protecting the health of everyone working around the MudCube."
Also recognised at this year's OTC event in Houston for its innovative content, the system will be subject to full-scale testing off Norway this year.
"Exposure to chemicals is a big problem, and the MudCube represents a huge improvement in this area," observed Rolf Wiborg, chair of the international innovation jury. "It can be fitted to all existing rigs."
Cubility was one of five finalists selected for the ONS 2008 SME Innovation Award.
According to Cubility, the MudCube represents a quantum leap in fluid cleaning. It rotates a continuous screen belt, and drilling fluid return will always enter a clear screen.
The system operates as a processing unit, which provides gentle treatment for the fluids and cuttings. With high capacity, it features low weight and a small footprint, and reduces waste.
